The ACLU of Northern California is speaking out about the privacy concerns of Facebook’s new Places feature and quoting things like:

In the world of Facebook Places, “no” is unfortunately not an option.
Facebook is rolling out “here now,” privacy later.

Facebook Places is a Stalkers Dream Feature

Not only can you find out what your friends are doing, now you can find out where they are! You heard me right. Facebook announced today their new Places feature that will allow you to “Checkin” to different places all around the world.

This is kind of exciting, but kind of scary too, what do you think? Are you more scared or more excited to use the new Places feature?

The feature should be released tomorrow starting with users in the USA and then rolling out to all users soon after. Information can currently be found on their developer documentation as well as in a video of their live announcement.

The new “Give it a Ponder” marketing campaign from LG is a series of commercials about texting that is hilarious. It tells you to think before you write up a text or update a status. Making the people mad that you are stalking, or may be stalking you, is probably not a good thing.

350 MILLION people around the world are now using Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook sent out this message to all users today. it discusses the changes that are occuring now that Facebook has transformed from more than just colleges, and more than just cities. Facebook is worldwide, and instead of setting privacy settings by school or by region, they are going to give you more control of your privacy settings. So, the ball is in the “peoples court” now so to speak. What will this mean for all those Facebook Stalkers out there?

We’re adding something that many of you have asked for — the ability to control who sees each individual piece of content you create or upload. In addition, we’ll also be fulfilling a request made by many of you to make the privacy settings page simpler by combining some settings. If you want to read more about this, we began discussing this plan back in July.

Since this update will remove regional networks and create some new settings, in the next couple of weeks we’ll ask you to review and update your privacy settings. You’ll see a message that will explain the changes and take you to a page where you can update your settings. When you’re finished, we’ll show you a confirmation page so you can make sure you chose the right settings for you. As always, once you’re done you’ll still be able to change your settings whenever you want.

We’ve worked hard to build controls that we think will be better for you, but we also understand that everyone’s needs are different. We’ll suggest settings for you based on your current level of privacy, but the best way for you to find the right settings is to read through all your options and customize them for yourself. I encourage you to do this and consider who you’re sharing with online.

Can I Have Your Email Address, Pretty Please?!?

Well, don’t be surprised when you start getting for your email address by Facebook applications this month.

The Developer Roadmap for Facebook was just released which states:

Developers will be able to ask users to share their primary email addresses (for example, firstname.lastname@domain.com).

Not such a bad thing?

I’m not opposed to the change too much, I mean it makes sense that applications should be able to request permission to have your email but there are a TON of crappy applications out there on Facebook whose only purpose is to SPAM your average joe-sixpack, and this might be bad for the unknowing user.

Anyways, as our philosophy goes here, be aware and knowledgable, or… get spammed, stalked, etc. This is your online identity, and we advise that you protect it.

What current, legitmate Facebook application would you like to have your email address?

I’d say mapmyrun.com, that works pretty well.
