We’re adding something that many of you have asked for — the ability to control who sees each individual piece of content you create or upload. In addition, we’ll also be fulfilling a request made by many of you to make the privacy settings page simpler by combining some settings. If you want to read more about this, we began discussing this plan back in July.

Since this update will remove regional networks and create some new settings, in the next couple of weeks we’ll ask you to review and update your privacy settings. You’ll see a message that will explain the changes and take you to a page where you can update your settings. When you’re finished, we’ll show you a confirmation page so you can make sure you chose the right settings for you. As always, once you’re done you’ll still be able to change your settings whenever you want.

We’ve worked hard to build controls that we think will be better for you, but we also understand that everyone’s needs are different. We’ll suggest settings for you based on your current level of privacy, but the best way for you to find the right settings is to read through all your options and customize them for yourself. I encourage you to do this and consider who you’re sharing with online.

The Developer Roadmap for Facebook was just released which states:

Developers will be able to ask users to share their primary email addresses (for example, firstname.lastname@domain.com).

Not such a bad thing?

I’m not opposed to the change too much, I mean it makes sense that applications should be able to request permission to have your email but there are a TON of crappy applications out there on Facebook whose only purpose is to SPAM your average joe-sixpack, and this might be bad for the unknowing user.

Anyways, as our philosophy goes here, be aware and knowledgable, or… get spammed, stalked, etc. This is your online identity, and we advise that you protect it.

What current, legitmate Facebook application would you like to have your email address?

• I’d say mapmyrun.com, that works pretty well.

Policy: You must not circumvent our intended limitations on core Facebook features. For example:

• You must not notify a user that someone has removed the user as a friend.
• You must not track visits to a user’s profile, or estimate the number of such visits, whether aggregated anonymously or identified individually.

No?  Well, this girl was thanks to the power of Facebook combined with an airline employee who broke privacy regulations, is a creeper, criminal, and much more I’m sure.

Facebook is great because it lets you stay close with your friends by “stalking” them, but seriously… Hitting on a 15 year old… We don’t approve.
